Budget-Friendly Tea in Kathmandu: Good Chiya Doesn't Have to Cost Much
Chiya Table · 9 Oct 2026

Kathmandu's cafe boom has been great for choice, but not always for wallets. A single specialty coffee can cost as much as several cups of chiya. If you meet friends often, it adds up.
The good news: good tea doesn't have to be expensive.
Our everyday prices
From our menu board:
| Drink | Price |
|---|---|
| Black Tea | Rs. 25 |
| Cutting Tea | Rs. 30 |
| Lemon Tea | Rs. 30 |
| Full Cutting | Rs. 35 |
| Black Coffee | Rs. 40 |
| Masala Tea / Matka Tea / Milk Coffee | Rs. 50 |
| Cold Coffee | Rs. 70 |
Tips for an affordable hangout
- Order cutting tea. It's the cheapest way to keep a long conversation going. Another round is only Rs. 30.
- Share a lassi. A banana lassi (Rs. 120) is filling enough to split.
- Go for black tea after meals. At Rs. 25, it's light and inexpensive.
- Pick an outdoor spot. You don't need fancy interiors to have a good time. A garden table works just fine.
Why we keep prices low
We believe tea is for everyone: students, workers, families and friends. Keeping prices close to a neighbourhood chiya pasal means people can come often, not just on special occasions.
